Phew - Worra Scorcher.
It's been another balmy day here on the East Coast.
Before I go any further I forgot to mention yesterday whilst out at Gordon Biersch I asked for a latte to receive a withering look from the server like I'd shat on the carpet. Anyone would think I was asking for crack cocaine. Needless to say - I had a coffee with cream. Most odd.
Anyhoo - on to today. Weather has been lovely. So after breakfast (at a reasonable hour) we were off to Baltimore for the day. From the pics you can see in the first one - that's where we paused for iced lattes on the first floor (or stupidly here they call it the 2nd floor, as the ground floor is known as the first floor - we share a common language, but its SO very different). Then had a nice stroll around the town. Clearly the Inner Harbor (argh no 'u') is where it all happens. Particularly so in the evening where i suspect it could get a bit messy.
So, on Lyn McQ's recommendation we aimed for the water taxi to head for Fells Point. Hilariously we walked past it to check out the Tourist Information Bureau and any handy additional tourist information and walked back to find it had gone. Darn. Sadly there was no timetable so Darren went to talk to one of the local guides to see when the next one was due. Then as I watched it was clear that as Darren approached said guide he literally walked faster and faster away from him. Rude.
Thankfully moments later the water taxi came in to view, so we hopped on. It then travelled through the harbor area passing such shipping as that in picture two. We then hopped off at Fells Point. Lovely part of town made to look even nicer as the trees are all very autumnal - and given the amount of bars it looks like it becomes party central in the evening.
After the return water taxi back to the bustling hubbub of inner harbor it was off to Cheesecake Factory for 'earlybird special' in an hommage to Lindsay who's birthday it is today - and Allyson, one of my US correspondants. And I shall be tucking in to my cheesecake soon. Hurrah.
So tomorrow the weather's not looking so good. That can only mean one thing. Shopping. Hurrah. I'm in desperate need of a winter coat and am bound to by some new shoes too.
So now we're relaxing with wine (Darren) and Limonata (me) and cheescake. Hurrah. The TV is on, and I am loving all the drug adverts (particular favorites at the moment are an arthritic remedy; possible side effects include tuberculosis and death and tablets that deal with ahem erectile dysfunction - both at 7.30 in the evening. Just hilarious). Now I want Darren to play the new episodes of Happy Endings off of his recording device whilst I enjoy this cheesecake...
More tomorrow.
